Latest KM vintage news:
We have a new wine and some new vintages being released in the coming weeks and we thought you may be interested to hear the details. We also have news of awards being given to our wines at the International Wine Challenge in London, one of the largesr wine competitions in the world.
The new wine is a rather unusual red – we love it!! It is a 100% Sangiovese (the Italian varietal that is the signature grape for Chianti). We have a 1ha block of planted with this varietal right at the top of the farm on some excellent soils, and our winemaker, Willie, has created a powerful wine that reflects its origins – lots of morello cherry fruit with a sleek mouthfeel and long finish. We have christened it “Testarosso”!
As regards new releases:
- On the whites – we are moving onto the 2011 vintage White Gold (Chardonnay/Semillon blend), which is very similar to the very good 2010 vintage; in a couple of months we will also be moving onto the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc which has more fruit expression and is more delicate on the palate than the 2011.
- On the reds – we have moved onto the 2010 Sable Shiraz completely now as the 2009 has sold out. The 2010 is full bodied, intense wine with bags of everything (fruit, structure, aging potential, etc)
Awards:
We are very pleased that 2 of our wines won medals at the IWC tasting in May this year – the Directors’ Reserve, which won Bronze, and the Sable Shiraz, which was Commended. It was the first time we have entered our wines in any competition here – so we will be doing so again!!
The Sable Shoraz 2010 has also just won a silver medal at the Michaelangelo Awards!
